Haight Ashbury Free Clinics offers primary medical care at two locations, and is guided by the principle that "Healthcare is a Right, Not a Privilege."

Haight Ashbury Free Clinics provides compassionate, nonjudgmental care. Our supportive staff is experienced with the complex healthcare needs that can result from homelessness, poverty, and addiction, and our physicians have specialized expertise related to the treatment of infectious disease and addiction.

Services

  • Evaluation and treatment of medical issues
  • Integrated primary care and behavioral health services
  • Follow-up of chronic and ongoing medical problems
  • Routine checkups
  • Screening for many health disorders and chronic disease management, such as diabetes (high blood sugar), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, anemia, hepatitis, and cancers
  • Women's health care services, including family planning, pregnancy test, complete obstetrical services, breast and cervical cancer screening (mammograms, Pap smears)
  • Geriatric health care services
  • Behavioral health services (individual and group therapy)
  • Psychiatric Services 
  • Confidential HIV and Hepatitis C testing, counseling, and treatment
  • Substance abuse services, including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Tobacco cessation treatment
  • TB screenings and referrals
  • In-house phlebotomy

Monday through Friday:  8:45am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Director of Addiction Medicine at Haight Ashbury Free Clinics

Dr. Ako Jacintho joined HealthRight 360 after 11 years of private practice in Berkeley. He is a physician licensed in the specialty of Family Medicine, and he completed his medical residency training at the UCSF/SFGH Family Medicine Residency Program in San Francisco.

When Dr. David Smith opened Haight Ashbury Free Clinic in 1967, it was the first nonsectarian free medical clinic in the United States. Over 400 patients were seen in its first week of operation, launching decades of innovation for delivering primary healthcare services to those who can least afford them.
