Prototypes

Inspiring hope, health & independence

Prototypes rebuilds the lives of women, children and communities impacted by substance use, mental illness and domestic violence. We promote self-sufficiency while ensuring safety and shelter for those in need.

In 1986 Vivian Brown, PhD, and Maryann Fraser, LCSW, MBA founded Prototypes with the goal to change treatment for women and their children. The first residential treatment facility for women and their children began serving clients in 1988. Throughout the years, Prototypes expanded its services by opening additional facilities and serving more individuals. Today, Prototypes operates several sites in Southern California, annually serving more than 10,000 women, men and children.

Prototypes is a lifeline to women who are struggling with addiction and other serious issues such as domestic violence and mental illness. Many of these women are mothers who face an impossible choice: give up their children to foster care or a guardian, or continue to suffer.

With a proven model of comprehensive, integrated social services, Prototypes has evolved into one of the nation’s leading behavioral healthcare providers and is a “prototype” for other such organizations. Our team of top professionals and dedicated staff provide:

•    Residential and Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Treatment
•    Detoxification
•    Mental Health Services
•    Prevention & Education
•    Vocational Training
•    Parenting Support for Families
