HealthRIGHT 360 mourns the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein, who died Thursday after a distinguished career of service to San Francisco, California, and the United States. Feinstein, who was born in San Francisco in 1933, served as a San Francisco Supervisor, Mayor, and for 30 years in the United States Senate.
Shortly after the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic’s grassroots beginnings in 1967, Feinstein, then a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, whose father had been a surgeon at the University of California, San Francisco, understood the crucial role that the clinic played in the community, and gave her early and continued support. Moreover, Feinstein recognized that the clinic was more than just a medical facility, it was a symbol of San Francisco’s commitment to compassion, inclusivity, and innovative solutions to complex societal problems. By bolstering the clinic’s foundation, and other HealthRIGHT 360 programs, Feinstein effectively underpinned a broader commitment to community healthcare and well-being. Her advocacy helped to promote the organization’s objectives and safeguard its future.
