Job Overview

The Therapist position is responsible for assessing client needs and strengths to support mental health and recovery needs.  They provide individual counseling and case management in accordance with program specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Intake and Assessment Responsibilities:  Schedules and conducts comprehensive assessments on clients for mental health and/or substance abuse treatment and referrals. Enters intake data into various electronic systems and ensures integrity and accuracy of the data.

 

Individual Treatment Responsibilities: Provides individual counseling and/or psycho-education to clients with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Provides outreach to clients in order to keep them engaged in substance abuse and mental health treatment services (i.e. follow-up phone calls).

 

Treatment Setting Responsibilities: Actively participates in inter-agency and intra-agency staff and team meetings. Participates in clinical, administrative, and consultative meetings as well as professional development and training throughout the year. Maintains client-sensitive practices, policies, and procedures (i.e. maintaining quality assurance standards, assuring client confidentiality and other mandated requirements).

 

Documentation Responsibilities: Performs administrative duties including fulfillment of contract requirements. Makes periodic presentations to other staff, programs, agencies, funders and other community institutions. Prepares and maintains required charting and documentation in a timely and thorough manner per established standards;

 

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience

Required:

- Licensed or Board Registered MFT or MFTi, LCSW or MSWi, PsyD or PhD

- At least 2 years experience in the delivery of mental health and substance abuse treatment services including intake, assessment, treatment, case management, referral and crisis management;

- Experience in recovery services, working with diverse populations, and dually-diagnosed clients

- Training, experience and ability to adhere to all client confidentiality requirements and standards, and handle information with tact and diplomacy;

 

 Desired:

- Demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to the cultures of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities;

- Ability to work with clients of complex needs and from diverse backgrounds;

- Familiarity with working with adolescents and understanding of their developmental issues;

- Bilingual language skills (Tagalog, Spanish, Chinese highly preferred for this position);

- Flexible work schedule. 

 

Background Clearance

Required:

-Must not be on active parole or probation 

 

Knowledge

Required:

- Knowledge of trauma, co-occurring disorders and substance abuse treatment

-Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.)

-Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population

-Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications

-Experience working successfully with issues of mental health, substance abuse, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency

Desired:

-Familiarity with harm reduction models

-Knowledge of DBT, CBT, MI and trauma based treatment highly desirable

-Knowledge of art therapy, interest in utilizing art in individual, group, and family therapy, as well as skill based groups

-Knowledge and experience in child development, working with children and providing children with mental health services
