Five-Story Building Acquired in the Mid-Market/Van Ness Corridor Neighborhood
San Francisco, CA September 4, 2014 — HealthRIGHT 360 today announced the acquisition of a fivestory building in the Mid-Market/Van Ness Corridor neighborhood. The 1563 Mission Street location will be transformed into a new healthcare center for the nonprofit organization, providing primary medical care, mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and resources for employment, education, and housing assistance – all under one roof. With a legacy of serving San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents that goes back over four decades, HealthRIGHT 360 is building this resource at a time when increasing attention is being directed to the area’s new tech headquarters and condominium projects, and how that development impacts local nonprofits and their service to the community.
“Securing this building is an important milestone in our mission to build a new center for integrated healthcare,” said HealthRIGHT 360 CEO Dr. Vitka Eisen. “This location is accessible to the communities we serve in the heart of San Francisco, and we look forward to creating a modern resource for the present and future needs of our clients and community.”
This project was considered during Tuesday’s meeting of the San Francisco Health Commission, which voted unanimously on a finding of “Consistent and Recommended for Incentives” with regard to San Francisco’s Health Care Services Master Plan (HCSMP) that was adopted last year. The HCSMP identifies the current and projected needs for, and locations of, healthcare services in San Francisco, and contains recommendations regarding accessibility and appropriate distribution of those services.
Colleen Chawla, Deputy Director of Health and Director of Policy and Planning, noted “the extent to which HealthRIGHT 360 does now and plans to in the future serve an underserved population by expanding primary care, dental care, and behavioral healthcare to low-income populations with high health disparities in underserved neighborhoods in San Francisco.”
HealthRIGHT 360 is collaborating with the SF Department of Public Health and others to design an appropriate and effective outreach plan for nearby residents and other interested parties who wish to learn more about the project and to provide their recommendations; during the last several months, while the sale of the building was being negotiated, HealthRIGHT 360 was contractually prohibited from discussing the location publicly. A capital campaign was launched last September in support of the project, and lead gifts and foundation grants totaling over $3.2 million have been secured.
